This is such a bummer. TheGamer basically let me write whatever jokes I wanted about whoever I wanted in the video game industry - to the point of getting legal threats. Few places give freelancers that much freedom. It’s sad to see so many good staff writers and editors let go.
Valnet unfortunately let go of the entire TheGamer features team today alongside several other staff members.

Many incredibly talented and hard working writers I've had the pleasure of working with over the past several years.
Sam’s such an incredible talent - he’s going to keep doing amazing things, no doubt about it. TG’s definitely lost something special with him gone.

Hire him! He’s great!
In light of being laid off from TheGamer today, I don't intend to let my passions die out. I'll continue to create work independently, and keep that excitement for whatever opportunities come my way in the future.

This was a dream career, and I'm not done with it yet.
So kind of you to say! I’ll be rooting for you and can’t wait to see what’s next, fellow midwesterner!

Needless to say, I'm now looking for work. I'm open to roles in:

-Journalism
-PR
-Copywriting
-Copy editing
-Games writing
-Scriptwriting
You were always so kind and incredible about my work when I popped over into your island at features. Your work is some of the best there is. Anybody would be lucky to have you on their team!
Some of the absolute best ever.
Sam is the best. ever. Beyond talented and brings so much knowledge in his tool arsenal.
Branden is one of the most professional, talented, hilarious writers in the biz. You’d be lucky to have him on your team!

Unfortunately, my time as an Editor for TheGamer.com has come to an end.

I met some of the best coworkers I've ever had there, I learned and grew a lot.

If anyone is looking for a journo, especially for guides, reviews, VR, horror, and farming RPGs, I'd love to hear from you.
woohoo! congrats, you’re our favorite trekkie!
It’s been such a joy working with you at TG! Wishing you all the best at Polygon!

Dying Light 2 was one of the first games I properly guided for TheGamer, so it’s very cool to have the chance to review Dying Light: The Beast. It’s not as ambitious as the last game, but that definitely helps it in the long run. My review: www.thegamer.com/dying-light-...
Dying Light: The Beast Review - Back To Beastics
The Beast isn’t as ambitious as Dying Light 2, but that sharper focus makes it feel like the true sequel to the first game.
