I'll be updating my portfolio as I go, as well as creating more videos on YouTube and social media. Even if you just want to see a guy spout nonsense about games, come say hello.

Of course! And, more importantly, a fellow member of the Quaid Army.
I'll be going back to freelance for the foreseeable future, so if we ever worked together pre-2022, I may be reaching out soon! And if you've ever enjoyed my work, you can reach me about potential opportunities at [email protected].
Thanks so much, Ally! I've always been impressed by how talented you are at features writing!
Outside of journalism, my pilot script, Bug Boys, was a Second Rounder at the Austin Film Festival, and my short film, Anthill, was a semifinalist for Best Horror Short at the San Francisco Art House Short Festival and an Official Selection of the Shortcut 100 IFF.
That said, journalism has been increasingly unstable since I started and I would be eager to try something new in video games PR or consulting! Or copywriting/copy editing in the games industry, or out.
It's a bummer (but honestly kind of a relief). Will miss working with you!
I've worked in journalism and criticism for nine years, first as a local news and sports reporter and, since 2018, covering the games industry. Prior to getting hired as Features Editor at TheGamer, I did freelance work for GameSpot, Polygon, IGN, and PC Gamer.
Same, James! I'll keep following your excellent Half-Life coverage until the end of time or until 3 is released, whichever comes first.
I got laid off from TheGamer today, along with the entire Features team (go give
@epicswitzer.bsky.social
and
@hallafyre.bsky.social
a follow!)

Needless to say, I'm now looking for work. I'm open to roles in:

-Journalism
-PR
-Copywriting
-Copy editing
-Games writing
-Scriptwriting

The biggest thing theaters could do to get more people going regularly would be offering childcare for parents while they watch their movie. Gyms and churches do it, and the cost of a sitter is the most frequent reason I see cited for why people in their 30s and 40s stop going.
Wrote about Todd Haynes’ incredible May December for TheGamer’s movie of the year nominations. In an exceptional film year, it was the work that hit me the hardest and made me think the longest.

Twitter removing headlines to “improve aesthetics” isn’t that big a surprise if you know that Elon did something similar with much higher stakes at Tesla factories, removing the color yellow and safety signage because he didn’t like how they looked.

He also reportedly dislikes having “too many signs” and beeping noises from forklifts.

Hope that the looming SAG-AFTRA video game performer strike is the beginning of these companies getting hammered by workers because this industry desperately needs it.
Top 5 is pretty solidly set, but the rest aren’t in any real order.
Update 2.0 is a game-changer, and Phantom Liberty is the perfect showcase for everything it improves. My review of Cyberpunk 2077's new, and only, expansion:

The much-hyped — then much-maligned — RPG is back with an expansion that changes the game.

Yeah, I loved the demo, too!
Yeah, I’m glad I got to review it because otherwise I would be in the same situation!
Took me about 35 hours!
I regret to inform you that catching up with all of 2023’s great game releases is not getting any easier. Sea of Stars is a terrific modern riff on Chrono Trigger.
