Hello BlueSkiers! I’ve made a starter back of people working on rewilding and similar things in UK and Ireland. Many more to add but it’s a start.

Hopefully not another round of hand wringing about campus deplatforming and left wing activists which completely ignored the very hard reality of RW censorship online and in the media, or which talks about Charlie Kirk without referencing his campaign to have people fired for views he didn’t like?

Q another round of articles on the BBC focusing almost entirely on campus-censorship.

Remember when Republicans got mad that the federal government might be CENSORING political content on social media? Remember when they spent three years holding hearings trying to prove it happened? And threatened to jail anyone involved?

How times change!

Statement from AG Pam Bondi:
Statement from AG Pam Bondi:

“Today following outreach from the DOJ, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target ICE agents in Chicago.

The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.”

This is presumably why doing any sort of intellectually challenging activity now feels vaguely subversive.

There were some polls years back which showed that solar was more popular than ice cream, so it’s probably true!

Liberal Democrat Ed Davey says the Conservatives and Reform have a message on energy bills that is "simple, beguiling and terribly, terribly wrong"

Calls for the sector to take on their "lies" and says "the Farage/Badenoch plan would fail".

Not to mention that the boss of one of the companies paid himself a big enough bonus a few years back to personally add about £5k to every home they built.

Journalism that dares not name fascism, that dares not call out as wholly dangerous and illegitimate the anti-science, anti-rule of law policies and politics of one side, in the name of supposed 'balance', is the custodian of democratic rot.

In the Parsifal myth, nobody in the court of the ailing king, in the ailing land, dares name the festering wound in the royal groin. The generative organ is rotting. It takes Parsifal openly naming the wound, calling it what it is, for the spell to be broken, for healing to begin.

Yesterday, many Palestinians (some children under the age of 18) who had been held without charge & denied their basic rights by the Israeli government were finally released

But thousands more remain in arbitrary detention under appalling conditions and must not be forgotten

Obviously traumatic for the towns and people in question, but while frightening it also offers up the possibility to create something wonderful for the future by allowing some areas of land to flood - to allow the water and the wildness back into our lives and create new areas for nature.

Towns may have to be abandoned due to floods with millions more homes in Great Britain at risk

- Every constituency projected to be at greater risk, with many areas likely to be uninsurable, Guardian investigation finds

It's an attitude I have encountered throughout my life in green politics, both in Ireland where I grew up and elsewhere. Particularly common in old left who are suspicious of environmentalism as a middle class thing. I'm not making a comment on the specific politicians in Ireland (or anywhere else).

Reform UK want to take public spending down to 35% of GDP — that’s a £275 billion cut, the equivalent of shutting down the NHS.

The Green Party knows the only way to rebuild our communities is by investing in our public services, not running them down and flogging them off to the private sector.
“Graphic showing Reform UK’s deputy leader Richard Tice in a blue suit speaking, with the word ‘CLOSED!’ in bold red and white text across the image. Behind him, faded images depict a hospital corridor and healthcare workers. The Green Party logo and imprint appear at the bottom.”

Skimmington or "rough music" was a custom in Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire,

It represented community disapproval.

Mllborne Port, 1890s, cause windows left open for ventilation in bedroom of small children.

This is a clear example of how varied the cause could be.

Agree to a point, but it does depend on if one sees the environment as about access to resources and ecosystem services, or if has a value of its own.. there is an element of the Left which seems very happy to destroy the environment as long as everyone has an equal share of the ashes.
alasdaircameron.bsky.social
Ill-judged cuts like this fuel inequality and populism - which in turn fuels the rise of fascism, and ironically given it is the exact opposite of what is needed, further cuts to energy security and net zero.
alasdaircameron.bsky.social
For anyone who think this is unfair, this is a graph of the insulation rates after Cameron had that moment when he'd look tough by going after the 'green crap'. Genuinely a huge strategic error which has led to far higher bills and reliance on international gas markets (e.g. Russia).

These are top Russian agents.
