Thank you -- though the waterfall did most of the work.
aferguson.bsky.social
I thought the area between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes and Michigan's Upper Peninsula were contesting for greatest waterfall density but Iceland blows them both away.

Watkins Glen, though, would still probably win for most waterfalls in the shortest distance.

I'll have to bookmark this in case I ever need to explain chutzpah to someone.

Mike Johnson: "They berated a Capitol police officer, screamed at him. He was merely standing his post. It shows, again, their disdain for law enforcement, the Democrats, screaming, assaulting officers."

I would suggest that he get therapy but that would be so cruel to therapists.

Öxarárfoss is the last waterfall we saw on our #Iceland trip so it's quite apt for it to be the last #Iceland waterfall photo I post for #WaterfallWednesday.
#photography #waterfalls #WaterfallsWednesday #hiking
Öxarárfoss is in Þingvellir National Park. It is about 44 feet (13 meters) tall. The waterfall drops over a ledge onto a jumble of large rocks. There is a mist giving a gauzy look to the bottom 2/3 of the photo.

Look, but don't touch.
Leaves of three, let it be.

A poison ivy vine is growing up the trunk of a tree in Columbus, Indiana's ‎⁨Mill Race Park⁩. The leaves are changing from green to maroon. Even when they are dried and on the ground the irritating chemical, urushiol, can cause those who are alergic to break out in a rash.

I loved this one because it was a surprise, not on the map and no name that I could find. It was just there along Road 62 in Westfjords and we were only there because the Stykkishólmur ferry had been shut down on short notice for maintenance. So glad that happened because the entire drive was great.
A mutli-tiered waterfall goes the over the edge of what looks like human-made stacked terraces but it actually narrow horizontal layers of lave.

I like your glacial erratic theory.
aferguson.bsky.social
In fact it looks like rock slabs we've seen in the US that have broken off in avalanches or earthquakes and then slid down slopes
aferguson.bsky.social
That it doesn't look like any other stacks we saw is what made me curious.

Victoria Glacier, ‎⁨Banff National Park⁩, ⁨Alberta⁩, ⁨Canada⁩ #photography #B&W #Support_Public_Lands
Victoria Glacier is flowing between two rock faces. Lake Louise is at the end of the valley the glacier has carved.

I'd like to be able to tell you something about this huge solo monolith on the beach at Lækjavik Nature Preserve but there's nothing about it in my #Iceland geology book and my google-fu failed to turn up any geologic information.
#photography #ocean #beaches
A huge lava monolith stands by itself on a black sand beach in eastern Iceland. The slopes of mostly bare lava mountains/hills are visible in the background. The waves are close to the monolith suggesting the it is surrounded by water when the tide is in.

It looks like we'll be in the 4-7C range later this week. Still warm enough that the herbs can stay outside.
aferguson.bsky.social
No below freezing nights yet but cool enough that I can get a walk done in the morning without bugs. It was cold enough we've had the heat come on a couple of nights.

Have you had any below freezing temps yet?
aferguson.bsky.social
I hope so too -- if for no other reason than there's almost nothing to take photos of on my walks. I was hoping that day of rain we had was the end of the drought but we've gone right back to blah, dry days (I think part of the reason Flit is getting in the pond is because the creeks are dry).

He looks like he's trying to figure how to 'attack' that pillow so he ends up on top of it.

The weather has been pretty nice but there's almost no color. I wonder if all the leaves are just going to go straight to brown this year.

Happy War of the Worlds Season to you.

Those are great. Of course, any photo with Joey in it is going to be the "best" one but I really love the one at the beaver dam. The colors, the rock ledge, the perfect reflection all combine to lead the eye down the pond edge to its end.

That doesn’t sound too bad, especially if you were able to do it all outside!

It was so beautiful yesterday, so we went out then. (I cooked the turkey dinner yesterday, so leftovers today.) I think tomorrow is going to be warm again, so that might be the last of the season. Here are some photos:
A person and a fawn-coloured dog wearing a red life jacket are on a paddle board left of frame looking into the photo at another person standing on a paddle board, paddling into the distance. The sky is blue with a few clouds, some of the far leaves have lost all of their leaves, some are still changing to orange. The photo is sort of blurry as it was taken through a protective waterproof case. A carpet of leaves on the ground — orange and brown and yellow maple leaves are covering the ground under the tree they fell from. There are still some leaves hanging on the trees around the woods, but it is thinning fast. The sun is shining top right corner of the frame. The tall deciduous trees along the big dam at the beaver pond have almost lost all their leaves. The bank/ground under the trees looks orange from the fallen leaves. The trees are reflecting in the still water of the pond. The sky and water are blue. The resident barred owl spotted sitting on a branch of one of the shorter trees in the woods that still has its green leaves intact.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate in Canada with a photo from Healy Pass Trail in ‎⁨Banff National Park⁩, ⁨Alberta⁩, ⁨Canada⁩. #photography #flowers #Canada #Support_Public_Lands
A white flower is in focus on the right side of this image. The rest of the flowers and leaves are out of focus.

Because of unseasonably warm weather we were able to shampoo her outside and use the hose -- so it was much easier than usual -- and the pond smell wasn't very bad which was good.

Hope you are having nice weather for Thanksgiving; maybe nice enough for a cruise on the water.

Flit's #MondayMorning Wisdom: Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadian folks who, among other things, are giving thanks* that I am not their dog.

*special holiday greetings to @candissabean.bsky.social whose Joey would never, ever do something like this.

A medium-sized chestnut colored dog with a black muzzle is wet and very, very dirty -- she has literally being mucking about in our neighbor's pond.

MO & OH Dems need us to help Rally support!

A commissioned poll shows nearly 1/2 of MO voters oppose the maps

The Dem committee needs over 100,000 valid signatures across multiple congressional districts before the state’s 90-day window expires on Dec. 11 to let voters decide on the maps.
Missouri Democrats have an opportunity to block a new congressional map. They say they’re largely on their own.
Despite relatively little investment from Washington, Missouri and Ohio Democrats are looking to block new Republican-drawn maps through uncertain avenues.

This meadow along the Healy Pass Trail in Banff is everything I could ask of a meadow. #StunDay
#photography #Canada #hiking #NationalParks
In the foreground, the meadow is covered in purple, red, and yellow flowers. In the background is more green meadow with a scattering of evergreen trees and further back a rock promontory rising along a long ridge.

No problem spotting the dog but I am still very impressed with Uggi's disguise. 😉

Between Escalante and Bolder on Utah 12 #Stunday #photography #geology #Support_Public_Lands
This road through the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument⁩, ⁨Utah⁩, ⁨is an amazing drive with many trailheads for some of our favorite hikes. The land, from the Navajo sandstone in the foreground to the laccolith Henry Mountain Range on the left side in the distance, was some of the last land in the lower 48 states of the U.S. to be mapped. The Monument and the surrounding national parks have been places we've loved to hike for over 30 years. The Wikipedia article on the Monument gives an overview to it's geology, biota, history, and the political fights over it that continue. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Staircase–Escalante_National_Monument
