When you start your book cover journey (either by hiring someone or by creating your own) do you have a clear idea of what you want? Is it something you know going in or is it revealed through the process?

I just finished this up in a SmArtSchool mentorship class with Sam Weber. 😊 The assignment was to create an illustration with an original character, and I went with my current D&D character 😅

The medication stockpile bill is the bill I had pegged this year as the most important kind of bill to pass given federal threats, with a short time window to make it happen. Washington passed the same bill earlier this year.

It's so shameful for Newsom to veto this bill.

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

I don't know enough of the retelling's MCs I'm writing so I'll introduce the "interrupted" WIP's MCs, with a moodboard. They are both widowed dads, Benedict's loss is recent, Frank has been alone for two years with his kid. They meet on a desolate beach near Frank's house.

“How long?”
His lips wobbled, but he kept his eyes on that small baby. “Two weeks, almost…”
Exhaling at the injustice of that fucking life. “Two years for us…”
Their eyes locked, that mute understanding in them, but his was still fresh with that raw grief and loss, when his heart was filled with that tamed grief and that hole yearning to be filled with love again.
Holding his hand out to that pale man, realizing he couldn’t take it, he just locked his fingers on his hand holding the baby’s shoulder. “I’m Frank.” A small squeeze.
“Benedict.” Weak, with that voice swollen with tears.
