A little bit of good news: we have a fabulous new merch design!! This design features an illustration of the Revolutionary War fortifications at Whetstone Point ("Fort Whetstone"), inspired by a 1781 map of Baltimore for the French army encampment—drawn/designed by the inimitable @curses.zone

A circular design with hand-lettered text that reads "Baltimore says NO KINGS!" and an illustration (not to scale) of the star fort and water battery at Fort Whetstone. The background is pale turquoise-ish blue, and the text and illustration are different shades of dark orange. I spent some time early in my career as a German historian, and one lesson you learn quickly is that a desire to understand is not the same as a desire to excuse. I would go further and say that you can't truly condemn something without knowing what you're condemning. It's fake and empty.

I have to keep reminding myself when early modern people are spelling their names all kinds of ways that the only reason my name an DOB are consistent is that I live in a time and place where I *need* to be able to give the same details out every time.
