A reader loves his friends—but also judges them: “I don’t think any of them has changed a bit in 10 years.” He asks James Parker if there's something wrong with his friends’ approach to life.

Read Parker’s advice in this week’s “Dear James”:
Dear James: My Guy Friends Are Stuck in a Rut
For 10 years, I haven’t seen any of them change for the better.

#SCOTUS denies review in case against Colorado school over policy to keep children's gender transition/status secret from parents. Justices Alito/Thomas/Gorsuch concur in denial but call allegations "troubling" & "tragic." Correcting: Brought by @a1policy not @America1stLegal

Remember the Trump administration's unsuccessful Labor Day effort to expel children to Guatemala?

The lawyers filed an amended complaint today, expanding the scope of the litigation — reflecting the long-term goals of the administration to do the same thing with kids from many countries.
INTRODUCTION
1. This is a complaint on behalf of hundreds of children at risk of unlawful removal
from the United States.
2. Plaintiffs are unaccompanied minors in Office of Refugee Resettlement (“ORR”)
custody whom Defendants have sought or are seeking to remove from the United States in clear
violation of the unambiguous protections that Congress has provided them as vulnerable
children. Defendants have unlawfully claimed the power to expel these children, in violation of
the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 (“TVPRA”), the Immigration
and Nationality Act (“INA”), and the Constitution. Plaintiffs seek to represent a class of
unaccompanied children who are or will be placed in ORR custody and who do not have a final
order of removal or grant of voluntary departure by an immigration judge

The GOP Can’t Escape Its Growing Failures and Scandals

An unraveling Pete Kegseth, a GOP government shutdown, the Epstein Files, and absurdly racist Telegram messages --- MAGA's fascist machine has fissures, and the majority must exploit them.

I just retrieved a pill I "just had in my hand and must have put down somewhere" by turning the lights off and searching with a UV pen intended for drying nail varnish.

This could have revolutionary applications.

“Fears of a permanent underclass reflect the fact that there is not yet a coherent vision for how a future A.I.-dominated society will be structured,” Kyle Chayka writes in his recent column.
Will A.I. Trap You in the “Permanent Underclass”?
An online joke reflects a sincere fear about how A.I. automation will upend the labor market and create a new norm of inequality.
