Our 💯 hours to #SaveAmericasForecasts starts tomorrow!

Tune in to hear over 200+ US meteorologists and climate scientists share the importance of federally funded weather and climate research!

Record low snowcover in the Alps! 🔥

At Zugspitze (highest GER mountain), the previous 145 cm record low (1972) for a 1st march has been smashed today: 110 cm! ❄️😱

Really worrying about the drought this summer (not to mention the glaciers...) 📈

Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people.

Be strong, be brave, be fearless.
You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy.

Distressing snow conditions across the Alps! 🔥

At (what should be) the peak of the winter season! 😱

91 cm at Rudolfshütte, 2317 m (Salzburg, AT)
17 cm at Ristolas, 1665 m (Queyras, FR)
1 cm at Sella Nevea, 1124 (Julian Alps, IT)

Jetzt ist es offiziell: Der schneeärmste Winter jemals in #Wien gemessen
***Now it'sofficial*** The least snow ever recorded in a winter in #Vienna
We had the pleasure of celebrating 1 cm. In total.

Früher haben wir Wintersportler immer gesagt: der Jänner bringt die Kälte, der Februar den Schnee. Dieses Muster lässt sich heute nur ganz schwer erkennen... #dürre #klimawandel #drought #österreich

'Glacier Mass Balance Intercomparison Exercise' ❄️🧊

Huge effort to gather mass loss estimate outside ice sheets btw 2000 and 2023 📈

Since 2000, 5% ice volume lost globally (273 gigatonnes/yr) 🌊

Guess who 'won'? 🥇
Alps and Pyrenees lost 39% of their 2000 volume! 😲😱

Saw a skeet from @neilrkaye.bsky.social on a bulletin board today.

Also, if you are 30 years old, more than half of all fossil fuel CO₂ emissions have occurred in your lifetime.

A constant reminder that even if CO₂ emissions decreased annually as much as they did during the pandemic lockdown from now to 2030, we still wouldn't meet our emission target to keep global warming below 1.5°C.
A line graph depicting global CO2 emissions from energy and industrial processes, along with projections from 2000 to 2100. The y-axis represents CO2 emissions in gigatons (Gt), while the x-axis marks the years. A highlighted target to keep global temperature rise below 1.5°C in 2100 is at 20 GtCO₂/yr by 2030. Also show is a line showing decrease in emissions equivalent to what occurred during the pandemic. The line misses the target by about 8 GtCO₂/yr in 2030.
So far, this winter has been exceptionally #dry and #warm in #Austria, leading to the worst skitouring conditions I ever encountered in February
We got a message from the university to remove any use of the "DEI", "diversity", "equity", or "inclusion" from all public-facing documents. They said that even "biodiversity" is being flagged by the federal government. We live in the dumbest timeline.
Really cool #climate #earthobservation position @esa.int Who knows one day you might be telling us what to do 😉
