and if you want a frame of reference, i'm in NW PDX. slabtown at the moment. streets are very quiet, very calm, and i am extremely aware of my surroundings.

Same same. I don’t remember exactly when. They put up little street sign toppers some time this century but I think the delineation came into focus as the Pearl district, and Slabtown with the old Conway property really started to develop

The Slabtown library opens Jan. 10 at a new building more than twice the size of its previous location.

@gkmizuno I went to an open house at the library last night. It's a fantastic branch. The features that stuck me were all the different kinds of seating areas, plus lots of small "community rooms".Plus the kids area.

It's a great addition to the Slabtown community.

And why would a loan mean that there are no funds available to build a park in slabtown?
January 6, 2026 at 2:40 AM
it’s an absolute shitshow here on the west side now that slabtown is getting very built up with almost no parking [laudatory]

Fact, he knows nothing about slabtown, the avenues, or North PDX.

A complete moron about the PNW

I like your review. It does sound interesting and you're right about John Carroll Lynch, he's great in most everything I've ever seen him in. He was at his craziest and evilist as the 'God of Slabtown' in She Rides Shotgun. I might have to give Sorry, Baby a try.

Walking through the new Slabtown developments is cool but hard to not have "why aren't these apartment buildings 3-4 times taller" screaming in your head

Is it possible to sum up 2025 in 4 photos? Probably not... But it’s a fun experiment to narrow down the most memorable moments.

Pass it along with the caption:

fun to read the phrase “a sea of surface parking” in a slabtown developer’s master plan description, deployed as casually as you’d see it used in an urbanist bluesky post. healing the scars of 20th century automobility is so core to this city’s identity www.gbdarchitects.com/portfolio-it...
Con-way Master Plan - GBD Architects
GBD’s involvement with the Con-way Blocks dates back to the 1970s, when we started work with Freightliner (which Con-way eventually bought out) and did space planning for them from 1975 to 1991. We co...
