A poplar tree sapling hangs onto its only leaves at the end of fall along the St. Vrain Creek at Roger's Grove Nature Area in Longmont, Colorado.

A larger spruce pine tree is to the left, marked with the single white line mark indicating the Appalachian Trail. The dirt trail winds in an S curve among various ages of spruce pine trees. A sapling shows strong green foliage at only 1 1/2 feet high. Bright green moss is scattered along the edges of the trail. Moss can also be seen on lower tree trunks.

The life we live is a fragile one, what grows up, must come down. We are gifted with time, how much is a guess, but thats what makes it valued and precious. When that time is up and the curtain is called, we return to the Earth, giving ourselves back to the world. My life, from sapling to mighty Evergreen, was shaped by the many seasons ive seen. I've long since fallen, but my footprint remains, feeding the next generation in this forest domain.

Unfortunately I didn’t see Gobblekins today, but I do have this pumpkin in one of my flower pots.
Brown anole nose down on a vertical oak sapling branch, looking at us with deep suspicion. Fluffy black cat glaring at something off pst your left elbow. I started growing a maple sapling that sprouted in our flower box and now I have a tiny tree.

What do I do with it over winter? Do I leave it outside to live like it would or bring it in and baby it?

I just finished The Sapling Cage by @margaret.bsky.social and what a wonderful book! So many pages left me feeling like I was looking in a mirror. The story and setting felt grungey and fantastical and poetic. Trans anarchist books are my new favorite genre <3
