#manjaro
Thanks for the detailed explanation!
I guess seeing all the wild config tools and such when trying out any Arch-based Linux distro (in my case CachyOS or Manjaro, heck even Arch itself via the archinstall script), it's overwhelming and not that understanding why included things don't work.

I do recall the VM Manjaro completely breaking on a full upgrade and that was mostly when I stopped trying it out. For now, with just the few AUR stuff and other programs I want rarely, I followed some instructions and scripts for using Arch in WSL; some av1 encoding stuff were made easier for Arch.

Hadn't known they've screwed up a lot. I had primarily tried Manjaro looking for something mostly easy to setup yet will allow for AUR since it's Arch, though it doesn't even support it well? Other reason is liking Cinnamon in Mint and wanting to have another fancy-ish desktop (was 7 years ago).

Fedora with KDE is pretty solid. Kubuntu as well. Ubuntu has recently pledged to stop using older kernels and instead start adopting the newer ones actively, which is nice. Fedora has always been pretty cutting edge. Manjaro (and Arch that it's built on) is more bleeding and possibly amputating edge

Is there a way to use Arch-based Linux distros like CachyOS or Manjaro or EndeavourOS WITHOUT all the additional configuration software like octopi and such, and just have a clean, minimal installation where i can actually use GNOME Software or is that too much to ask

...is because it's Arch with a gui installer *and* a history of fuck-ups. This site is a good summary: manjarno.pages.dev

They've improved the past few years as far as I'm aware, but I still wouldn't trust Manjaro on any important system. (2/2)

I'm generally not a fan of distros being "x, but y" to begin with. E.g., "Arch but with a gui installer." If someone isn't comfortable with a cli installer, they shouldn't be using Arch or its derivatives (sans SteamOS) in the first place, in my opinion.

The reason I single Manjaro out...(1/2)

It's being called the "new GNOME app store," but the truth is far more interesting. Bazaar isn't just another storefront for users—it's a powerful backend for the people who make them.

No to Manjaro? I've only used it briefly in VMs and as a usb boot, though it didn't seem that bad. I've not used a large variety, though lightly used both ubuntu and debian based releases.

My fucking icon dock where all my stuff like notifications and volume and the steam icon etc. etc. are just fucking gone and I have no idea what manjaro widget that was so I'm just fucked I guess because if I google anything it's going to be in fucking ancient languages

Linux Mint for me. I had power user days way back when - but work demanded windows during the quarantine so I never made it to Manjaro (Arch) like I was hoping to.

Now I just write and surf and watch the occasional video (I don't even play games anymore) so Mint is good enough for this old laptop.

I've got a ryzen 5 HP 360 that I need to convert and was undecided on Ubuntu or an ultra light Manjaro.

@kendricklmao8 Unfortunately, I only trust myself enough with vanilla Arch to break it. In which case, I'm okay using an optimized setup that enough people have vetted. A lot of Open Source after all is just people frankensteining existing parts into a new "thing".

Manjaro seems to work on my […]

@kendricklmao8 I'll bite. I have both Cachy and Manjaro installed on different PCs in my house. Why do people hate Manjaro so much?

The best thing about #CachyOS is that it hopefully gets people to move from Manjaro (which is the most amateur #linux distro since Hannah Montana Linux). Talk about vibe coding. Jesus christ!

友人T(提督のTでもある)の実験PCにmanjaroをインストール。steamのゲームが動くところまで検索で調べながら行けた。あとはandroid系が動けばゲーム機としては完成だわ。いい時代だわー。

I've been using Ubuntu/Gnome for... at least 15 years now, and OpenSuse/KDE before that. I keep on wanting to try out Manjaro, but my personal "SysAd" works with Ubuntu, so it oesn't seem worth ths hassle ;)

@linux @[email protected] Grafico interessante. Stranamente ho sempre […]
