I'm baffled by this, because I can get up to go pee at the same time in the morning, and I don't get the Early Morning Ickies. So it has something to do with being interrupted, not just with waking up at that time.

If I get that morning phonecall, and go RIGHT back to sleep for a couple hours (like, don't leave my bed), I might be able avoid the Ickies for the rest of the day. But if I had to get out of bed to look at the calendar, and get 2 more hours of sleep, I'll still feel vaguely bad when I get up.

Antihistamines and waking up a bit more slowly (eg taking 30 minutes between alarm going off and getting out of bed) make the Ickies less. So I suspect it's got something to do with MCAS.
