I programmed in hex (binary) with AI. It was surprisingly adept at creating programs that print ASCII art. The resulting code was copied into a hex editor and run with DOSBox. Follow-up article coming soon!

Now you're giving me horrible flashbacks to having to HEXEDIT THE EXECUTABLE ITSELF to be able to bind the sprint/cover/melee/vault/doeverything button way back when ME3 first released.

Questionable whether this counts as a proper bug, but while I was working on Linden Lab side project "Sansar", I discovered that you could hexedit your avatar's scale to be far, far outside the acceptable range. It was VR, too, so you could see the world as a towering colossus or a miniscule gnome.
honestly fair. okay I’m not far enough in BG3 yet (still in the Underdark) so reply or quote this with your favorite video game bug. bonus points if it’s from your own game
I said "no let's not make this like twitter" and y'all said "no these big twitter accounts dictate things for us" and now we have a different shitty dude every 33 hours and "clocks are ableist". This what y'all wanted instead of talking about Armored Core 6 and Baldur's Gate 3

Damn. Use the update tool from the 600 and hexedit this thing? Not sure if that works with your model. forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph...

Been using "hexedit" for a while cuz it's just... nice and plain and simple thing
But I keep staring at some EBCDIC files. And it has no support for anything but plain 7 bit ascii range being displayed
So I just... added support for custom encoding maps. Hooray~
Works pretty well \o/

Depending on format used, a tool like antiword has a good chance of still extracting the text. Its even possible by hand with a tool like hexedit.
If its truncated some data will be unrecoverable, if it's corrupted you can probably recover just about all of it.

I'm running hexedit on the drive from a live USB. Searching for a known unique string: "Über Spades" (About Spades, in the German translation). I know this string to be present among the data I'm looking for because it's in a screenshot I posted here.

i've selected the relevant part there
d8 2a is type: tag value: 0x2a (42)
58 25 is type: byte-string value: 0x25 (37)
the byte-string follows immediately after, and it starts with a 0x00 0x01

Pixel art and campaigns but Hommoe🌈has higher complexity.
Anno 117 was pretty good, you can hexedit the exe to remove the time limit but the game crashed in 2 hours and no saves.

The first time was when, on using OSX, I couldn’t work out which .config file, which obscure registry entry I needed to hexedit to change the icon of MacintoshHD, all set to chain command line pipes, & the Mac guru blew my mind by dragging & dropping the .ico file onto the Preferences dialogue

Looking at the tarball in hexedit, it looks to me like the ustar path prefix field *does* contain the goobligook that python and busybox are prepending. Why is GNU tar ignoring that?
