Another old book given new life! I rebound this 1901 copy of the ATF specimen for my mentor. I repaired the spine and lose signatures, made new endsheets from scans, and made a new case with the original cover attached.

Increasingly, perfect bound books can be made with the inside cover printing with the first page to create the end sheet effect.
These are a value add.
The publisher can create alternative editions if sales are robust or a novel goes viral.

It is likely that the romantasy book category will be hard hit in the next few months at least as many source their upgrade shelf candy books from China. This, coupled to tiktok uncertainty has destabilized some of the most successful romantasy writers.

Up for discussion today? End sheets.
End sheets are best known in hardcover books. This is because how the hardcover is created leaves an unsightly gap during cover application. The end sheet glues to the inside cover and hides stuff.

This is the main thing that big publishers have now--not better quality of writing, not better editing, nothing to do with the actual text. They just have the ability to package slop in foiled titles, sprayed edges, and endsheets.

Did two new things for this bind. 1, did the title on the spine with acrylic paint using a stencil. 2, Did a new to me sewn endband style: bead on spine.
