#elm-lang
What’s happening with Elm-lang? That had to be the first question I asked #Elm's creator, Evan Czaplicki, and you can't answer without asking, what’s happening with Open Source funding? Can OSS successfully exist when companies want everything they can get for free, forever? 😰

I'm in a toxic periodical situationship with Elm lang. I love and hate this language, what it could have been, what it never will be. Have to fight an urge to rewrite some work projects in Elm every half a year or so

[Elm lang rant 1/2]

I've been learning Elm over the past week, and it's really fun and seems cool, but there are some thing beginning to annoy me.

First, it claims to have no runtime errors, but this is a lie. Your program will crash if you compare two functions or `modBy 0` something. To be […]

cant wait for elm pro to drop 💯

in all seriousness, great interview. my understanding: evan slowed down elm development because it grew unsustainable. he chose not to hand it off because he was a personal contact to companies heavily invested in the lang and knew their needs best.

This morning’s film… Brilliant collision of ‘Elm Street’ and ‘Candyman’ with a Fritz Lang undead noir dream freak monster. Has the feel of a film which deserves to be bigger. Jittery somnolent fun, wonderfully shot, some fantastic moments, overall blast.

Elm because it does one thing and does it well. (It is also much stricter than Haskell fwiw.)

If I have to pick a general purpose FP lang I'll go for ReScript.

Honorable mention to Rust, which most people do not think of as FP but which nicely incorporates lots of FP principles.

[Elm lang rant 1/2]

The other thing that is bugging me is how limited things are with the `comparable` type. If you make a new type, there's no way to make it "comparable". So you can't use it as a key in a Dict, or a Set. If I have a generic type that I can't map into a comparable, then I'm […]

Elm was the first functional lang I ever wrote a meaningful amount of code in.

I convinced a professor at uni to let me use it instead of the recommended Angular.js for an assignment. It was great!

And that's why, if you feel like it, even if you have other favorite tree among the candidates, I'm asking you to help with a vote to the Elm of Navajas: https://www.treeoftheyear.org/Hlasovani?lang=en-US
