Strohman and I exchange ideas for character design all the time, so this one flowed pretty naturally. I took the "augmented human" thing and pushed it, replacing the limbs almost entirely, and making the neck portion clearly far beyond anything human. Strohman's designs often normalize nudity, and the original had her tits and pussy right out, for all to see. But my eye wanted to do the "technically SFW, if only by the grace of a few wayward strips" thing. Strohman has a thing for Felicia Darkstalkers, and it just felt right. The crotchplate kind of flows into the tail, giving her a more dinosaurian shape. This one is likely the most radical of the set, but I think I was only able to do that because the original vibes with me so hard. This one wasn't hard to figure out. Jimmy's a citrine rock creature with two primary colors. That in mind, I focused on textures and sheer shapes to convey his composition. The nonhuman facial features wound up making him look like a Swat Kats character, but I kinda dig it. Admittedly, I simplified the shoes a little, so as to focus more on the elaborate patterning. Really, I feel like I may have aimed for a simpler outfit altogether, to focus on his anatomy. The original had a pair of citrine tusks that were only visible when his lips were pulled back. That didn't really apply when I made him more snaggletoothed, but it made his smile more prominent, so I vibe with it. Shel is in a similar position to Callie, in that the base design is extremely simple, but this one lacks the overt supernatural elements to lean into. Frankly, I relished the challenge that brought. Accessories make or break a design, so I tried to focus on the little things to set her apart; Earrings, wristwatch, the logo on her shirt. I spent the day watching 50's B-movies, so I was bombarded with a lot of outdated slang. This, conveniently, reminded me that "Dick" was a slang term for detective, prompting me to make the text on her shirt a little cheekier. I actually had multiple versions of this one, where she has hair highlights, and versions with and without glasses. Ultimately I decided that, while it's a redesign, having both was too much of a departure to be recognizable, so I had to choose. And I'm always going to side with glasses on that. I experimented a LOT with this one before I settled on a direction. This little garg was absolutely adorable, and I couldn't bring myself to alter its face substantially, no matter HOW much fun it would be to go ham with exposed teeth. I wound up using that conviction to figure out where I was going. With so many of my sketches kind of looking like a softer take on Nosferatu Zodd, I decided a more bestial body would pair nicely with the mostly humanoid head. Initially, that wound up making it look like some kind of funky sphinx, but my hand wandered into kaiju territory, with the pear-shaped bipedalism and the heavy tail. I think it wound up working. The character is certainly a gargoyle, but less "Goliath" and more "Destoroyah." It remains chubby, because it was an unforgivably huggable design right from the start.

Especially when I think about the symbolism of the stones, Diamante is stone of strength and brilliance, especially what I've seen of the character he values strength and wants to hone his abilities further especially post-story.
I think Diamante is it, but Citrine also just sounds like him too.

Sinfonia HATES Syksy and Liekki and he has nothing nice to say about them. He's gone so far as to say he would "swallow Soil" before he was ever friends with either of them.

(Soil= crystalized souls in differing hues/ the opposed element to mist. It would both kill him and burn him to do that)

Sinfonia forgets to eat a lot because he's too focused on the work and he functions better when he can graze all day instead. He has a habit of getting in a horrible mood when he's hungry but still forgets to eat. Once Sielu figures this out (& how underweight he is) he starts leaving him snacks 🧡🩵
