Questionable Stropharia. Een grijze reiger (Ardea cinerea) staat in het gras met zijn nek ingetrokken, waardoor hij een 'kopzwaar' uiterlijk heeft. De vogel heeft grijze veren, een gele snavel en kijkt schuin naar beneden." Twee traditionele Nederlandse molens in de mist. De voorste molen staat op een grasdijk naast een smalle sloot, terwijl de tweede molen vaag op de achtergrond zichtbaar is door de dichte, grijze nevel. De wieken van de voorste molen steken prominent af tegen de uitgestrekte, mistige lucht. Een houten pier strekt zich uit over rustig water, gehuld in dichte mist, met riet langs de rechteroever.

​Das Foto zeigt einen Graureiher (Ardea cinerea) im majestätischen Flug vor einem minimalistischen, blassblauen bis fast weißlichen Himmel. Der Vogel ist im Profil von der Seite eingefangen. Seine Flügel sind weit gespannt: Der hintere Flügel zeigt die charakteristische dunkle Federung, während der vordere Flügel durch das Licht eine helle, fast silbrige Unterseite offenbart. Der lange, dolchartige Schnabel ist präzise nach vorne gerichtet, der Hals ist reiher-typisch leicht S-förmig eingezogen, und die langen Beine ragen hinten über den Schwanz hinaus. Die Lichtsetzung erzeugt einen starken Kontrast zwischen dem dunklen Körper des Vogels und dem endlosen, leeren Raum um ihn herum.

A majestic Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) perched alertly atop a bright orange road sign at golden hour. Grey Wagtail’s (Motacilla cinerea) index is stable across Europe. The species has an extensive range across diverse climatic conditions (Zalewska et al. 2025) and is expected to be less affected by climate change due to lower physiological constraints and greater tolerance for broader climatic range

I think Ardea was widely used for any long-legged waterbird. Carl Linnaeus gave Common Crane the scientific name 'Ardea grus' in C18. Heron was Ardea cinerea. So even that late they were putting them in the same bucket.
