I had exactly the same response to an early-16th-century choirbook (from the Alamire scriptorium) in the Vatican Library in 1981…

Loppa vom Spiegel (14th Century), Latinized Loppa de Speculo, was a nun of the Poor Clares order, scribe of medieval texts and music manuscripts, and book illuminator in Cologne.

#NowPlaying Still with the Arundel Choirbook. Hard to beat The Cardinall's Music in this repertoire. The Byrd, Fayrfax and Ludford Editions are all essential (imho!)

The Brooke Antiphonal is a 15th-century choirbook containing choral parts of masses for Saints Cosmas and Damian, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was apparently written for a Benedictine community (possibly of nuns) with a cult of SS Cosmas and Damian.
