I have a not-so-good memory when I did that instance. I was already on that part where I was crawling my way back to Camp Brokenglass but I suddenly got DCed (there's a DC-fest across all data centers during the first few weeks of EW) so I have to restart everything lmao

it kind of goes back to the themes that makotoh was dealing with in old sharlayan, where associating with her fellow scions made the disparity between them and herself feel suffocating. makotoh considers herself to be a regular person. a poor, abandoned kid from the desert.

in that sense, she doesn't see herself as being any different than this assumed imperial soldier grunt. maybe he was just a regular guy; maybe he didn't deserve any of this either. fighting without the boon of aether manipulation makes her realize just how tough this guy has it

with the situation at camp brokenglass, the garlean man with the busted basically-a-corpse was forgotten quickly in the scuffle. she later regrets that, but alisaie's reaction to makotoh and Knowing makotoh gave her more to think about than anything, lol

(but 6.0 becomes her "these people actually care about me???" arc, so that's to be expected!) all in all she doesn't experience a lot of inner turmoil over the event, partly because it was so bizarre and happened so quickly. it only makes her annoyed with zenos' existence Imao

i experienced similar feelings with the faded memories duty in the shadowbringers post-patches! while elidibus thinks he's destroying makotoh's psyche by making her fight shades of her comrades and loved ones, she stays grounded enough to be like

"THIS IS WEAK SHIT, FUCK OFF" and does not hesitate to fight any of the shades, even aymeric. possibly even Especially aymeric because he was So Incredibly Not Real to her and the presence of it was an affront to her! like, EX-FUCKING-SCUSE ME BRUH

what upsets her the most in this is that elidibus is using ardbert, after his body was Finally able to be put to rest after his lifetime of disaster and misfortune. it stirred an unease deep within her! since, you know, that's where he lives now,

a lot of her "fuck off!" reactions to things are just how she responds/copes with being put into these situations, but i also think it has something to do with who she is in that she is a female lalafell and therefore an exceptionally vulnerable creature from the get-go.

mkt has no misconceptions about her size or strength without hydaelyn's blessing. it's the same as when she would have to walk the footpaths to and from the golden bazaar in her childhood knowing she was a potential snack for any monster.

she's used to an extremely uneven playing ground, so i think these situations that are designed to make the wol feel powerless and small just hit her differently since that has been the case for most of her life. her agency has always been limited in one way or another.

the most she can do in any situation like this is to stand defiantly. no matter how disenfranchised she can be made to feel, they can't take away her bad attitude

THAT ALSO SAID, i think ultima thule for her was more difficult than any other part of the game in that the odds stacked against her truly felt impossible. like, beyond impossible. she knows what she saw in elpis. the only thing moving her forward by then is the scions

now that i've played through 6.0 and had plenty of time to think about it, i've come to the (interesting!) conclusion that makotoh was not nearly as outwardly bothered by in from the cold as she should have been Imao

I REALLY LIKE SEEING PPL TALK ABOUT HOW THEIR CHARACTERS REACTED TO/FEEL ABOUT pivotal scenes like this, so i had been looking forward to playing through it.
overall i liked it a lot! it was so weird to try to get the hang of and it felt very frenetic and desperate!! (yay)

more than anything she was angry and annoyed, which is honestly what i think works the most to expedite her through any kind of harrowing situation. it's always "i don't have time for this shit, i need to help _"

as a lalafell wol makotoh has had the shit kicked out of her so many times that to take the body of a soldier who was clinging to life obviously felt uncomfortable and clunky, but the adrenaline rush ultimately made it so she didn't have an opportunity to think about it much.

she Knows that fandaniel and zenos are extremely dangerous and extremely batshit crazy, so ofc her main concern is camp brokenglass. her sole focus becomes shambling there without dying.

zenos wearing her like a party city costume is bothersome, sure, but she gets the feeling that this is more of a test from him to see what she can take. granted, there is the real possibility he could kill everyone and make the world think she did it, but if she

didn't survive first and foremost, then she wouldn't be around to Do Anything about it. it didn't connect much deeper than that. while zenos and fandaniel are dangerous, their whims are very... whimsical. so she's very
"THIS IS STUPID AND I HATE YOU BOTH SO MUCH"

she never looked at the garlean officer's face
- or any part of him that wasn't armor. she could feel his blistered feet, trembling legs... his heart struggling to beat out of his chest. oddly enough makotoh felt bad for /him/.

the officer's weakness was one she herself knew well enough-having pushed your body far beyond its limits and still having no choice but to press on, while every part of you cries for relief. the dread that weighed down their limbs was a mutual sensation, somehow.
