In the Donskoy Monastery necropolis, crosses turn into a theater of light and shadow. One stands like an actor, lit by the sun and framed by darkness. Stone and light argue about eternity, while the viewer remains silent.

She leans on the urn, and time leans on her. This is the tomb of Vasily Dunin (1793–1812), a 19‑year‑old ensign who fell at Borodino. In the Donskoy Monastery, bronze and stone turn a personal tragedy into an eternal symbol of remembrance.

Opened in 1858 and shuttered in 2002, the Illinois State Penitentiary, now known as the Old Joliet Prison Historic Site was reopened to the public in 2018, managed by the Joliet Area Historical Museum. The Prison is probably best known today for its most popular, albeit fictional inmate – “Joliet Jake” Blues from the 1980 film “The Blues Brothers.”

This tomb, created by I.P. Martos in 1816, honors Ivan Alekseev (1750–1816), a State Council member. The central figure is “Faith,” holding a cross and supporting a portrait medallion — one of Martos’s first “dogmatic” memorials. "The Angel Who Prayed for Everyone But Himself"

This angel isn’t just decoration. He’s praying. For Sofya Tutolmina (1772–1833), the senator’s wife who raised a foundling boy and left him her fortune. For her husband Ivan Vasilyevich (1760–1839). For their childless life, full of love. Tomb, 1839, sculptor I.P. Vitali. Lost in the 1920s, restored in 2019. Here he is again, in summer sun, shot on expired Kodak Plus-X 125. Moscow, 2022.

"The Weeping Cupids of the Baryshnikova Tomb"

This tomb in Moscow’s Donskoy Cemetery belongs to Elizaveta Ivanovna Baryshnikova (1772–1806) — a noblewoman, mother of 13 children (6 died in infancy), who passed away at 34, half a year after giving birth to her last child. Designed by architect N.A. Lvov: red quartzite, bronze relief with Chronos, and a marble group of two mourning cupids holding a funeral urn. The epitaph reads: “To my gentle wife and truest friend, a mother who gave her life for her children…” — a personal letter across centuries. Shot on expired Kodak Plus-X 125. Moscow, 2022.

📸 "Family Portrait. From the Past into the Frame"
A group portrait of four generations of Soviet scale-focus cameras “Smena”: the first, the third, the sixth, and the especially rare ninth. These models are more than devices — they are legends of mass photography, which made image-making accessible to everyone. Focusing was always “by eye” — using the distance scale on the lens, where the photographer chose: one meter, three, five, or infinity. This was the philosophy of the Smena: trust your own vision. And though their bodies belong to the last century, they are still alive. They still shoot. And the images they’ve captured will be shown soon.
