Bulbo auratum ‘Other World’
A compact little plant that has been blooming pretty consistently for several months now, mostly one spike at a time.
No scent. Which might be a blessing as other Bulbo can smell of carrion.

Entering peak lily. We raise pretty much all our plants here - could not afford to garden on this scale if we had to buy plants. So 30 metres of powerfully scented outward-facing auratum lilies is all because Mark raised seed from controlled crosses.

This looks like an emo word poem or cover for a mid-90s ZINE but it's just me getting around to labelling my tarantulas hahaha

These popped out of a 30+ year old Brother label maker, and I'm loving the solid single choice of font that I get.
Very clinical.
Labels that read, from the top: Aurora - Brachypelma auratum - Macks -Acanthoscurria geniculata - Mosaic - Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens - these six labels sit on my dinosaur mouse mat, so there's a pair of brachicephalosaurus and some bird dino's there too

A new addition to our household. He / she is a juvenile Brachypelma auratum (Mexican Flame knee Tarantula). Small at around 5cm, but over the next few years could grow up to 15cm. Currently on the side of its enclosure watching me work…

The painting depicts two small children dressed in white who are lighting paper lanterns as day turns to evening; they are in a garden strewn with pink roses, accents of yellow carnations and tall white lilies (possibly the Japanese mountain lily, Lilium auratum) behind them. The painting is dominated by green foliage, with no horizon or other horizontal line to give a sense of depth. The viewer seems to be on a level with the children but also looking down on them. The two subjects of the painting are the daughters of the illustrator Frederick Barnard, a friend of Sargent's. Dolly, left, was 11 years old and Polly, right, seven years old; they were chosen for their blonde hair, replacing Sargent's original model, Francis Davis Millet's five-year-old daughter, dark-haired Katherine. The title comes from the refrain of a popular song "Ye Shepherds Tell Me" by Joseph Mazzinghi, a pastoral glee for a trio of male voices, which mentions Flora wearing "A wreath around her head, around her head she wore, Carnation, lily, lily, rose". The work is set in an English garden at Farnham House in Broadway in the Cotswolds, where Sargent spent the summer of 1885 with Millet shortly after moving to England from Paris to escape the scandal caused by his 1884 painting Portrait of Madame X. Sargent also took inspiration from the lanterns that he saw hanging among trees and lilies while boating on the River Thames at Pangbourne with American artist Edwin Austin Abbey in September 1885. Sargent wanted to capture the exact level of light at dusk so he painted the picture en plein air – outdoors and in the Impressionist manner. Every day from September to November 1885, he painted in the few minutes when the light was perfect, giving the picture an overall purple tint of evening.

So Aurora, my sub adult Brachypelma auratum, has finally decided she likes the top of her cork hide, and not so much the plastic walls. She's also picked a poop corner 👏🏽👏🏽

Maybe she'll be looking for decor again? She shoved it all into a different corner months ago hahaha

Some of my juvenile tarantulas tonight. 2.5 to 3 inches now. When I got them a year ago they were about the size of a nickel. All are captive-bred.

The lighting is inconsistent. I was holding a flashlight with one hand and my iPhone with the other, lol.

Wild silk tree (Albizia julibrissin) and lily (Lilium auratum) are in bloom. The former blooms in the latter half of the rainy season in the Tohoku region of Japan, while the latter continues to flower into summer.

Pictured is a Brachypelma auratum. The photo was taken roughly a week after her last molt. She is a black tarantula with some light banding on her legs. Her most noticeable feature are the pop of orange color on her “knees” that resemble flames. Think of candle flames! She is perched above her burrow, hanging out on a piece of cork bark.
