@ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social episode on covid + lockdowns on the nail re disruption to families but esp my kids' lives- no gcse/alevels to sit and the lottery of grade allocations. Teachers definitely preferred favourites and downgraded others. Bitterness bc of lack of prom. Still impacting today.

did not need A levels then they were a west of time Eh.. the problem with education these days it is so narrow focused on passing tests. Years ago I got Alevels then degrees . I had to actually read stuff. My younger daughter has good degree yet seems not be aware of very much.

In primary school French learning was random repetitive worksheets thrust intervals. At secondary, my daughter has had 6 different French teachers in 2 years, and they have never shown at parents’ evening. Son taking Alevels French (school) & German (privately, school withdrew just before GCSEs)
