Happy 13th birthday, Wikidata!

Facts do not live in isolation; they form a web of connections that shape understanding. Thirteen years ago, Wikidata was created to store and link facts across Wikipedia and its sister projects. ➡️ w.wiki/Jg

#Wikidata has been recognized as a digital public good! Wikidata is always the mostly-invisible powerhouse in the background, so this is especially meaningful to me and a great recognition of the work that thousands of people put into structuring the world’s knowledge every single day.

Wikidata has been officially recognised as a digital public good (DPG) by the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA). Seems so obvious but this achievement by @wikidatacommunity.bsky.social is definitely something to celebrate! #Wikidata #DigitalPublicGood

Mike points out that as a result of this improvement to the Biodiversity Heritage Library catalogue, he produces an error report that can help improve #Wikidata. This is a great example of how reuse of Wikidata can bring about improvements to Wikidata. #RoundTripping #LivingData2025

wikidata is both a) fascinating and b) deeply underrated (under-recognized?) by humanities researchers

Thanks Rob! I'm coming at it this issue from a #Wikidata point of view. My exposure to synonyms mostly comes about when adding specimen names as structured data to Biodiversity Heritage Library images in Wikimedia Commons. I hold hope BHL will then reuse that in their corpus at some point.

because this is wikipedia related I should probably be clear that I'm not 100% confident about the details of how they hit it off but I definitely remember Andrew saying something like ~"here I was thinking he really loved wikidata when he really just wanted to see Netha"
