Yesterday's adventure to Echo Lake, “Far Away in Time”
Hundreds of spectacular waterfalls surround Squamish in every direction and elevation.
There are at least a dozen en route to Echo Lake with plenty of pools to cool off in. 8 km in each direction with 1000m of elevation gain.
This is a wonderful little waterfall pool overlooking Squamish. Waterworn boulders surround the pool, and the “Sea to Sky” valley is in the background. Another refreshing pool to enjoy is set amongst cedar trees and water-worn cliffs. This particular waterfall and pool made for a friendly refreshing shower 1/2 to the destination. A glimpse of one of the many waterfalls en route to Echo Lake.

Build a heiau on Pu'ukohola, the "hill of the whale," dedicate it to your war god, and you will achieve your dream-you will rule the islands. Responding to this prophecy told by Kapoukahi, a famous seer, Kamehameha built the heiau (temple) that stands before you. Work began in 1790. Workers carefully set tons of waterworn lava rock in place without mortar. Kamehameha labored with them. Only his brother was excused, because he would preside over dedication rituals upon Pu'ukohola Heiau and had to remain ceremonially clean. To please the war god, the heiou had to be ritually perfect. Puukohola Heian an it may have appeared around 1800. The heiau ontained thatched structures, an altar for offerings, and wooden Images of gods Pu'ukohola Heiau still holds great significance to ma many native Hawaiians To respect their traditions, and to protect the structure, the heiau is closed to the general public. Only native Hawaiians exercising traditional religious practices may enter the temple.

Made some natural toad hides. I had scored someone's shell collection at an auction for $2. Some of the smalls will be crushed for my tomatoes, but these should be good toad/frog shelters. Doors were cut using a dremel and smoothed down. #gardening #toads #frogs #permaculture #shells #upcycle #reuse
2 large, waterworn seashells sit on an aged steel surface. Both have rounded doorways cut into their outer edges that are just big enough to allow toads or frogs to shelter in them.

Harrison, a Canadian domestic war artist, was intensely interested in abstracting natural forms and was highly praised by Charles Comfort. In her 1951 book 'Self-Expression Through Art' she wrote: “The [painter’s] ability to reproduce a given object with photographic accuracy is not the only criterion of good art. … Though when one says ‘like,’ one usually means visually like, there are other ways of identifying objects. What about like by atmosphere, like in sound, like by touch, like by smell; to say nothing of more abstract tests, which are best made by saying, ‘what does the picture convey?”

Lancing Beach: Day trip south to seaside town on the English Channel, part of the Atlantic Ocean. Shingle beach of waterworn gravel is a playground for dog chasing (not necessarily fetching) balls. Winds well-suited for kitesurfing school, and the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm 20km off the coast.
