When I got VCVRack I thought - yeah, I'll download a few modules, a few VCOs, VCF's and envelopes, the odd sequencer or two a few utilities. Just checked and I have 857 modules. That rabbit hole is deep, my dude.

PS I use VCVRack (and you should try it too it's free) with a paid VST host module. I never notice it spending any time scanning plugins, but I bet it just makes a list of all the DLLs and VST3, rather than load and interrogate each one.
