#Towhee
The photo on the left is a female eastern towhee last week in Greensboro. Most here have red eyes. The photo on the right was taken in Southern Pines last summer of a white-eyed (male) towhee usually found around the Gulf Coast. #birds

Had a great turnout at the OFO/ECFNC Detroit River outing on Jan. 10! Highlights included Long-eared and Northern Saw-whet Owls, both lifers for many in the group! Eastern Towhee and Fox Sparrow at Ojibway Park were also a treat. Join us next year for this annual co-hosted event!

Went for a bird walk with my daughters. Everything is so green right now. Saw some cool birds (summer tanager, scrub jay, spotted towhee...)

Pizza & rootbeer

Maybe a movie later.

Getting outside does help.

You can’t really see but this Towhee is spotted

I had an adult spotted towhee bring their fledgling to the yard a few years ago. The bird still visits intermittently and especially in spring. I live in oak woodland adjacent to chaparral and we get all the chaparral birds here.

Merlin identifies as "Spotted Towhee" - perhaps the name has been changed? Some others have suggested this as well.

Ruffus sided Towhee. Cats kill a lot of them because they are ground feeders and not very aware. Beautiful birds always in my backyard.

Love the towhee, so sociable, one stood on my foot just looking up at me while I was sitting outside

I love that state park. Spent many hours enjoying the birds there. I discovered where all the Western Bluebirds from the PNW go in the winter. The Marriott Hotel parking lot. LOL. Wonderful images of the Towhee I rarely can get a shot of. Thrilled to see this female Cardinal & Anna's Hummingbird!

Pretty pretty Towhee 💕

spotted towhee are so generous to be on the ground looking for yums so we can easily ‘spot’ them and enjoy birding moments. i love their vocalizations. the dark hood makes for an easy ID and remind me of early birding days. buteo and laridae ID is next. juvenile and female yikes! much love to all🧡🖤🪶

Cool birds especially up close. I thought they were still called rufous-sided towhee?

Thank you to everyone who supported our year-end giving efforts! Because of your generosity and belief in our mission, we can continue protecting native birds and the habitats they depend on across Oregon. We couldn’t do this without you and we are deeply grateful. 📷: Spotted Towhee / Mick Thompson
