In Toowoomba we have welcomed quite a few immigrants, particularly Sudanese, Hazara and Yazidi (that I know of) there has been very little issue. The fact they were welcomed probably helps. There was even some land donated for one group to grow traditional crops. Yet this is a very Right Wing area

Alarmingly recently, i.e. when I was a teenager in the 00s, I recall a controversy over the name of a grandstand at a rugby ground in Toowoomba. It was the Edward "N-----" Brown Stand and the media hoopla occurred because the locals were mad an Indigenous activist wanted the slur nickname removed
