Slavonian Grebe, in the pouring rain at Titchwell this afternoon. Normally only see these distantly offshore, so worth getting a bit soggy to get a closer look at one #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Day trip to Norfolk for some year ticks. Titchwell yielded tawny owl, lt duck and two woodcock. Three glossy ibis at Stiffkey showed well. Water pipit at Cley was elusive. Few other bits and pieces got me 14 year ticks and up to 127 for the year. Not a day for photos! #ukbirding #norfolk #yearlist

Weird duck season in Norfolk continues for us, with the latest being this scaup at Titchwell Marsh yesterday, following the goosander at Whitlingham last Monday as well as the previous weekend's goldeneye at Filby and red-breasted merganser at Wells.

locally as Muntjac have massively increased Southern Marsh Orchid populations have collapsed, but of course other variables confound correlation, summer drought, NOx eutrophication. The RSPB has exclusion fencing at Titchwell it will be interesting to see if the orchid population recovers.

Our last day of a brilliant week in Norfolk and decided to return to Titchwell today. So glad we did as we found two Snow Buntings on the beach, little gems and the only ones we have found this week. 😀 #ukbirding

Today's #birdoftheday set by the poorly @alan678.bsky.social is #EyeContact.

These sanderlings (Calidris alba) were keeping a beady eye on activities as they rested amongst the seaweed on Titchwell beach.
I love the feather detail and delicate colours of their winter plumage.

3/ 25th & 26th Jan. Neither day really got light and the SE breeze was bitter. Titchwell on 25th produced Firecrest, Scaup, Barney Geese and Scarlet Elfcap whilst a wander around Holme Dunes on 26th produced a lone Little Gull and a Red-necked Grebe, although the camera struggled in the half light.

Titchwell RSPB seemed very quiet this morning. Four Long-tailed Ducks on the sea and a female Scaup on the last pool. A couple of Red-throated Divers flew past.

Thanks - got up late, so decided to have a slow day at Titchwell where we failed to see the rptd Green-winged Teal; not the first time we've not seen one there!

Such confiding birds. Every time we visit Titchwell I have one feeding from my hand. I wonder how they make that leap of faith.
