Or at least it showed her thick and wavy hair, red like James, not blonde. The rest of her face however had been violently obliterated with something sharp and thin that left a mass of jagged white lines. Beneath the white lines, a single word had been scratched. BITCH.

Above her left eye, a familiar pang of sharp, cold fire scraped at the socket. Hissing, she pressed her fingers against the pain, her gaze darting around the marina, searching for its source. Since she could remember she'd been plagued by these flash headaches, these sudden migraines varying in strength from sharp stabs of pain to white agony so severe that she ended up writhing and talking in tongues. They came in waves and months, maybe years would pass between them. But each time they came, they brought with them an unwanted side effect. Visions of the dead.

Chapter One They had travelled to Potter Heigham in separate cars. Marie and her mother, Georgina, had travelled in their black Fiesta Zetec, with it's air conditioning and it's sat nav, it's CD player and flip out drinks holders. Kaitlyn and her father James had made the journey in the battered old Cortina with it's broken fan and the old AA map with the pages for Norfolk missing, it's ripped seats and it's coffee stained carpets. They pulled into the car park opposite the Latham's department store moments after each other. Storm clouds glowered on the wide Norfolk horizon. In the passenger seat of her mother's black Mercedes, Marie Knight flicked a strand of mahogany hair out of her eyes and turned the page in her book, the paper rustling against the front pocket of her black hooded top. She drew her legs up, the action pushing her knees out through the holes in her jeans, and put her feet on the dash. She'd kicked off her trainers early in the journey. A loose seam in the toe of her black and red striped tights danced in the breeze from the air-conditioning and she twiddled it round her thumb absentmindedly as she read. In the driver's seat, her mother turned and scowled. Georgina Knight had a sharp-cut bob of black hair, her pale face caked in foundation and garish red lipstick."Comfortable there?" Marie looked up. "Sorry?"
