this. & pleased to say that #TechnologistsForThePublicGood updated our bylaws last year to place a 3-term (9-year) limit on board service. you don't want constant turnover & churn, but it's really important that an organization is no one's fiefdom
This is just good leadership. There are multiple boards of directors where I’ve rotated off of boards due to limits I helped put in place in order to ensure the makeup of the org’s leadership evolved over time and didn’t stagnate with a cabal of old-timers. Plus, mentoring new folks is a joy!
I am 54 years old. I stepped back from Moms Demand Action after 11 years because I understood that power is finite. Organizations and nations can’t evolve if they don’t have new rolling leadership. This isn’t about age, it’s about hoarding power.
