As I encountered this twice now:
Judy's Magic Cast On is a double-sided cast on NOT a provisional cast on. Obviously you can put one side of that cast on on hold while working the other side but it's still not a provisional cast on.

Notes from my desk:

As the new year just started: did you change the publication year everywhere in your pattern?

If your pattern file is unusually large, check the size of all pictures and charts you added. Sometimes curious things happen with those 😉

New year, old reminder:
Time to change the dates in your templates and other documents to 2026.

Just popping up this lovely review from Sheila Toy Stromberg who I have recently had the pleasure of working with. Her designs are so well thought out and so much fun to work on! Please check her out! 🧶

If you copy parts of an old pattern to save time (yay for that!), please check that you changed *all* numbers to those for the new design.

Question for folks with direct experience—What is the going rate for freelance tech editing of patterns in the arts and crafts field? I’m particularly interested in weaving, but it seems that knitting, sewing, and crochet could be comparable.

It's always a good idea to use very clear labelling of your documents to keep track of different versions of your pattern. It makes it easier to always work with the most recent one 😉

It's always worth it to apply newly gained knowledge to older patterns too and update them!
Your customers will appreciate it as well.

It's your decision how wide your size range is but 13 cm between size XS and size 2XL *is too small*.

It's always worth your time and effort to smooth out your grading, especially if it makes the numbers more logical.
E.g.: differences between sizes should move in one direction (increasing or decreasing) and not wiggle around.

Sometimes it's easier knitted than written but instructions have to be correct.
But I will help.

Watching bowling and knitting two at a time twisted rib cuffs with thumbholes. Would love to finish them today. #techediting and #grading books are OPEN!

🧶 Notes from my desk:

When making a chart don't forget to really remove those stitches you just decreased, it might affect your row/round count too.

🧶Notes from my desk

If you don't have even or odd stitch counts for *all* sizes and those are important for your instruction, you might need to split your sizes for the instructions.
Alternatively you can make all stitch counts even *or* odd.

If you have a question but we don't currently work on a pattern, that's no reason to not just ask me about anything pattern related.

And I am sure that goes for my colleagues too.
