#Tamagui
No problem. Don’t feel like I’m dismissing Tamagui, though. It has its own merits and I just found that it wasn’t going to be a fit for my project.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

One thing keeping me from doing the same is Unistyles not having a "headless UI" component library such as Tamagui.

Did you miss that at all in your experience?

However, since React Native 0.80.x it's becoming more of a pain in the ass to maintain anything built with Tamagui.

Bunch of quirks, specially with portals and anything that relies on shared context.

Tamagui definitely has great features; the theming/token API, the way it deals with breakpoints and the opt-in headless components are pretty nice.

I have chosen Tamagui about two years ago to build a React Native component library that is currently the foundation of a pretty big production app, with millions of daily users and nine figures of yearly revenue.

What are you using for styling? Tamagui?

Tamagui is a style system for React Native & Web that lets you share more code between web and native apps while improving DX, performance & code maintainability 🤸 - madewithreactjs.com/tamagui

Custom font sizes have landed in @habitpixel.com:

✅ Small
✅ Medium
✅ Large
✅ System

First 3 ignores system font size, last option respects system fonts but within confines of not breaking app layout.

Wasn't easy to implement - but Tamagui made it easy! 😅

WebとReact Nativeでコードを共有できるUIライブラリで、パフォーマンスを犠牲にせずUI構築ができそう。コンパイラがプラットフォーム固有の最適化をしてくれるらしい。

React Native folks, what styling library of choice?

a) NativeWind
b) Tamagui
c) StyleSheet
d) Unistyles

I found getting to grips with Tamagui too much of a faff and a bunch of issues getting set up with Expo SDK 53 so switched over to Gluestack-ui.

I just want some snazzy pre-made components damn it

Don't have a strong opinion about Tamagui, but the long play is theoretically Nativewind/React Strict DOM with some sort of shadcn-like.

Anyone got experience with Tamagui? Thinking about switching out @sill.social's component system as a first step towards possibly building native apps. tamagui.dev

We adopted Tamagui to unify our UI across web, desktop & mobile.

Ended up needing 96GB RAM just to run dev 😵‍💫

We're now migrating to Tailwind + Shadcn — and seeing real performance gains.

Hello React Native community 👋
At Kindred, we'd like to start sharing code between our Expo and NextJS apps. More than just utils/hooks, but UI as well.
What would be the best way to do so?
- monorepo: turborepo?
- UI styling: Tamagui? NativeWind? bare RNW? something else?
What do y'all recommend?

i hate tailwind i hate all the other attempts like tamagui. alf is simple and logical.
June 8, 2025 at 6:17 AM
Agree! It is small. And I do see a lot of development happening all around. Tamagui and the team’s efforts and CallStack’s efforts are all world-class.

Bu Vercel vibes, I meant the lock-in. There’s this pattern where everything in web has recently revolved around Vercel a lot. Same for Expo.
June 7, 2025 at 8:58 AM
yeah you nailed it, that page needs a lot of love but i don't want to do a lot more redux+tamagui work, we're a zustand shop now
June 1, 2025 at 3:29 AM
Yeah iirc it was just a question of perf and pragmatism. Nativewind/Tamagui were too slow to be in the running, unistyles was a little new, anything too wildly custom was gonna add maintenance burden, etc
