My main issue with Totk is that Botw was a game about bucking a tired formula and then Totk turned Botw into a formula. My heart sank the first time I read "Great Sky Island"
Some people want another classic zelda, or to inject classic dungeons into an open world and I cannot agree with this either

Every Zelda Totk critique video on youtube complains about how easy it is to miss the paraglider at the start. On my first playthrough I intentionally avoided it and it was the best time I had with the game by far. The fact that it's optional is one thing I put above Botw

Stupidly good year. It was BOTW then and probably still, though TOTK has somewhat supplanted it. Odyssey, Edith Finch, Hollow Knight, Nier would be up there, and I played a hell of a lot of Splatoon 2. I have a soft spot for Kingdom Battle, and Cuphead (daughter's fave). ARMS should be there, obv.

My ultimate BOTW timeline theory is that from 2017-2023 it was downfall, but then TOTK rips out all Ocarina of Time continuity and places it into something else.
