I definitely headcanon Rude as an older sibling. My personal hc is that he has a younger sister that's the same age as Aerith, so he projects some of his big brother instincts onto her. And also why he likes Kyrie in TKAA, because she reminds him of his little sister.

It sort of make Rufus's first word being her name in tkaa & him noticing how she feels & acting in a way to please her or him silently listening to her in the helicopter in 7R or following her suggestions in cos or her id being the most displayed one from Rufus's pov in AC heartwarming.

We can all be honest with ourselves that neither AC or Dirge have the best story, and I think being able to combine those with maybe sections from novels like TKAA could do a lot in providing a satisfying conclusion for the RE timeline with ALL the compilation parts involved.

I'm so sad that middle child Rufus never actually got to be a middle child. We see him be a big brother to Evan in TKAA and I'm sure he & Lazard had a covert sibling rivalry where Rufus was the annoying little brother but we never got him in the middle of his two brothers 😭
