Just as Vincent is about to leave, he hears a cry from another room. When he investigates, he finds a baby boy, & he's overcome with guilt that he just orphaned this little boy. He can't just leave the baby alone, & w/o thinking, takes the baby & makes his escape back to Midgar.

Vincent is reprimanded for this breach of protocol. The child is sent to a Shinra orphanage, his partner Veld instructed to watch over the child to see if he has any potential as a Turk.

As punishment, Vincent is assigned to security detail for the scientists in Nibelheim.
