They didn't panic at St Mary's, Tansor when they realised their round headed tower arch had gone out of fashion, they just built one of those new fangled pointy ones inside it!

Thank you Devon Buildings Group and @ExeterCathedral for yesterday’s opportunity to explore a part of the cathedral I hadn’t seen before.

In a room above the chapel the chapel of St Andrew and St Catherine — a pig and piglets in stone.

The late saxon rood set into the porch at St Matthew's, Langford is a thing of beauty.
Simple and striking although sadly now headless, such a rare survival and a treat to see.

“Facciatone” (Big facade) -
Duomo #Siena

Begun 1339, disrupted by the Black Death & then suspended.

Existing church was to become the transept of the New Cathedral & the naves were to be developed in what is now Piazza Jacopo della Quercia.

This stunning carving of Christ in Majesty was found face down in the floor of the north aisle at St John the Baptist, Barnack in the 1930s.
It could possibly be as early as the 11thC or 13thC or somewhere in between..
Over 3ft high it's truly a thing of beauty

Quire, with north and south chapels, and chancel. St. Andrew's was a C12 priory church but as is often the case this is all a C19 rebuild. The steps are as a result of a resulting floor level change

Cruciform halo indicates it is Christ, bird pos figure of holy spirit, border may show Byzantine/Carolingian influence.

Lots of Norman Romanesque decoration here and a typical circular arch on engaged column responds with large carved capitals. But the C19 rebuild leaves Mouse wondering how much is 'real'

The roughly hewn cross may be 15th century. It was re- erected in 1920 as a First World War memorial.
