#Stonemasonry
In a steel-framed building the masonry is thinner; the wall doesn’t have the depth to bury enough mass for stability. Mechanical solutions were offered—metal fixings tying the stone back to the structure—but in stonemasonry the simplest remedy is to just add more stone above.

Shi is really such a sweetheart 🥹❤️, and I couldn't be happier that he took up stonemasonry as his new passion 😄. Let's make those statues happen! We have the concept drawn out already, so Just... Do. It 😤😁!

Oof, yes, of course, the hot pot just drains the soul 💀🥹! The RNG on NPC spawning is insane

Monday Morning Masonic Facts - pt5

In Freemasonry, a Lewis is traditionally defined as the son of a Freemason. The term originates from operative stonemasonry, where a Lewis is a metal lifting device used to raise heavy blocks of stone by fitting into a cut cavity.

This is a marvelous shot of an architectural marvel.

Sainte-Chapelle was the chapel of the royal palace on the same island in the Seine in Paris that Nôtre Dame Cathedral stands upon.

Completed in 1248, it represented the pinnacle of Gothic stonemasonry and architectural skill. Poised mass.
Sainte-Chapelle, Paris, 2023. It’s a dark and rainy day in Portland, Oregon, and I felt the need for some color in my life. I think this fits the bill. #Photography #Architecture #Interior #Paris #France 📷

This is fantastic, I've been following the work of Amin Taha/Groupwork, The Stonemasonry Co. for a while. Had no idea they were in Toronto though, might have driven down to see the talk

Oh, Westminster burnt to the ground already, in 1834, with only a few bits surviving. The current Parliament was built from 1840-70, with various hiccups along the way and subsequently. There have been 36 fires, 12 asbestos alerts, and 19 stonemasonry incidents just since 2016.
Parliament revamp could cost £40bn and take 61 years
MPs and peers are presented with two renovation options and told to make a decision by the mid-2030s.

I don't have a problem with this, as long as the public is made clear that this is not just a repair job, it's a huge renovation with lots of added extras.

The justification in the report is almost entirely due to maintenance issues, with the accessibility issue buried in the middle.

The refurbishment of the Grade 1 listed Houses of Parliament could cost up to £39 billion & take up to 61 years. Since 2016 there have been 36, 22 & 19 fire, asbestos & stonemasonry incidents respectively.👇

A very helpful box setting out both why this work is required & the cost of continued delays. As the intro to the report says: "Continuing in the same way is unsustainable, will lead to an expensive managed decline of the Palace of Westminster and will mean increasing safety and operational risks"

Sometimes, I love the internet. In the right forum, you can raise an incredibly niche mystery, and get all sorts of knowledgeable folk chipping in, linking Gàidhlig, French, Bengali and stonemasonry.

The cathedral located in Freiburg is home to one of Germany’s stonemasonry workshops, a Münsterbauhütte. Established at the start of the Freiburg Minster’s construction, this workshop oversaw the cathedral’s building process until its completion in 1536. theurbanactivist.com/culture/the-...

the input has changed but the human longing for something to do remains. In the 1500s they put their teens to work on elaborate stonemasonry.

The problem I have is that I use autoplay and YouTube picks the most random shit.

Videos I have woken up to:

A 3 hour lecture on medieval stonemasonry.
A 2 hour documentary exploring why serial killers keep killing.
A 3 hour review of Dial of Destiny.
The first episode of the Ateez dating show 🤣
