Weathered and proud, the old Schroeder Hall sign still stands watch over generations of Texas music and dance. Time has softened the paint, but the history still sings. #TexasHistory #RuralTexas #OldSigns #Americana #SouthernStories

From crooked bangs to corduroy collars, the late ’70s and early ’80s had me serving looks I didn’t even know I owned. A little sneak peek into the stories behind these faces—coming soon in Sugar in My Britches. #SugarInMyBritches #MemoirInTheMaking #RetroVibes #QueerMemoir #SouthernStories

Never thought I’d wrangle the chaos in my head onto paper—but here I am, 9 chapters deep and still going. Chapter 10’s a mystery, just like half my childhood. Might call it “Y’all Ain’t Ready.” Might call it therapy. Either way, it’s coming. #SoutherMemoir #southernstories #queerwriter

“Goddammit, Mama, can’t you see I’m the man around here?” Tommy Lee whimpered. “Can’t you see?”
“Sweet Lord Jesus in heaven,” Moses said. “Whatcha done, Tommy Lee? Whatcha done, boy?”

Maybe after tobacco season she’d use some of her earnings to buy some new sheets, maybe striped for her, and flowered ones for Sarah. Something else to add to the list of wants.

Evie struck a match on the porch railing and took a long drag from her cigarette. She felt the slight burning sensation in her throat then waited for the feeling of relaxation she knew would follow, hoping it would wash away the disappointment.

Wrote 3200 words today. Not sure if it will reach novel length or not. Maybe a novella. Have to see where the characters want to go with it. 1950s in North Carolina. Quite a leap from 1752!!!! But I cling to my Carolina roots.

A song, a son, rituals, and the meaning of home. Every time we cross the river, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down plays. A farewell, a return, a tether. You can never go home again—but we try.
