Excited to share my new piece: "Engineering Microbiomes for the Climate: Challenges at the Regulatory Frontier."
Microbiome engineering can be a useful tool for the climate, but technical and regulatory complexity make responsible deployment essential. #scipol #microbiome

First you need the logic. When I tried doing linear programming in Excel as a former SciPol student, i feel the knowledge that helped me most was Latin.

Brexitism is populism, based on forms of shared revealed ‘truth’ that are supremely opposed to utility in scipol terms. Brexitism is sentiment, but on LSD with a side of ‘My little Pony’.

Who protects science when politics get messy?

I hosted a new SciPol Digest episode for @sciencepolicy.ca on academic freedom, open science, and evidence-informed decision-making in Canada.

AIP is hiring the next director of our FYI science policy news service. I worked on FYI 2016-2023. Mitch Ambrose is stepping aside as director after a full decade living the week-to-week of science policy. Believe me, it's a tough but satisfying #scipol job.

Around 2005 IBM Italy people tried to persuade us, a group of visiting SciPol students , that Second Life was the future, and a "Second Life strike" of their employees was somehow relevant. We told them to their faces that they were wrong. Happy of having been right.

I’m trying to do more networking and outreach, and get my work seen by more people. I need strategies, routines, or scaffolding that let me stay visible without burning out.

If you’ve figured out how to maintain consistent presence online without exhausting yourself, I’d love to hear how.

Had the pleasure of writing letters to lawmakers last night with Wayne State students from SciPol Detroit & Green Warriors. We opposed a fast-tracked approvals process for a large datacenter in #Saline that ignores community concerns, & advocated for #NIH funding. Great student-led effort! #Advocacy
