#SDHISTCON
It has been a wild two weeks! Thanks to SDHistCon, the forthcoming Indie Games Night Market, and my own game days, we've played some truly incredible games. And these are only the ones I can talk about!

If I make it back to SDHistcon next year (and I intend to), if I have not yet done so, I want to try Angola finally. Been on my shelf for years…

I wisely took an extra day off between flying home from SDHistcon and going back to work. So what did I do? Played another historical boardgame! Pax Pamir 2e, solo vs. Wakhan, which I was much rustier on than I expected! She got me 15-10 in the end.

I am back from SDHistCon, but was terrible about posting while I was gone! This week's podcast with @fertessa.bsky.social was excellent, and you should not miss it. :) youtu.be/RbcPMPrfNW8

More SDHistCon highlights. A Teach & Play session of Drachen, the upcoming recon series game centered on World War 1 Verdun, designed by @volko.bsky.social. Fascinating exploration of fog-of-war, intelligence, and hidden information.

Beyond the games, SDHistCon also offers seminars on various topics. I attended two of them, and both were excellent! One was on co-designing and how various folks approach that kind of collaboration. I have recently started two co-design relationships, so this panel was particularly helpful for me!

And now that I've had a decent night's sleep, a more in-depth recap of my time in San Diego this past weekend at #SDHistCon. It was only my second time there, and I got even more out of it than I did the first one. This convention is consistently excellent in what it delivers.

#SDHistCon was as great as ever this year. Flying home today after an incredibly enriching experience. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to meet new people, to see old friends, and especially to check out all the cool games people have in the works! Thanks to @sdhistcon.bsky.social as always!

Last day of SDHistcon is underway. I just completed a fun training scenario of Churchill. I was Stalin. The Axis surrendered at the end, denying me a victory. (The scoring system takes too long to explain here.) Excellent game, my first play with 3 players.

At #SDHISTCON, @wehrlegig.games led a game of "John Company" where people played as teams and wrote letters back and forth from India. The letters are absolute gold. I AM ROLLING! 🪙 😂

My SDHistcon Sunday opened far too early with a bucket list game—John Company 2nd ed. with a full table of 6 players. 1710 scenario. The Company failed at the last minute due to a blackmail card tanking a vital trade. Excellent, excellent game, @colewehrle.bsky.social!

Finished SDHistcon for tonight with a couple quick hands of Fellowship Of The Ring: The Trick-Taking Game, cooperatively with @andrewbucholtz.bsky.social and one other. Nice cozy way to end the day’s gaming.

Started SDHistcon today with another @fortcircle.bsky.social upcing title, First Monday In October. Brain-burnery historical action, very interesting with lots of ways to influence the Supreme Court.
