#PokemonBreakVersion thread: Ranged attacks!
Something that's come up every time I've tried to make a Pokémon #ttrpg is an issue with ranged attacks that doesn't come up in non-Pokémon games. In most fantasy adventure TTRPGs with combat, everyone has access to ranged attacks.

#PokemonBreakVersion I really like the Downtime system in #BreakRPG, and it also made it really easy to figure out how Pokémon Centers work: They let a Pokémon benefit from Downtime (with Heal an Injury as the only available Downtime Activity) in a single day!

#PokemonBreakVersion I'm realizing that I need to make specific rules to handle aerial combat since it's a lot more common in Pokémon than what BREAK!!'s design assumes. I've been handling it with special Battlefield Areas (what you do in BREAK!! normally) however...

I realized it's probably worth explaining why this seems like such an elegant solution to me! Generally speaking, needing to track special conditions for individual combatants can be a headache! And you're correct!

Anyone that can fly can choose to start or stop Soaring whenever they could move to a new Area. Soaring Pokémon are considered 1 Area away for targeting purposes, and obviously are immune to stuff that only effects people on the ground, but otherwise are still in the same Area.

#PokemonBreakVersion tidbit: "Overpowered" is now a game term with rules attached to it... Ironically, the Pokémon that necessitated I make it was Magikarp! 😂 It's for a system I knew I wanted but hadn't made yet, to deal with Pokémon jumping ranks when they evolve.

Time for a #PokemonBreakVersion thread! In general, one of my policies has been "Keep the underlying rules and terminology from #BreakRPG as-is unless I have a really good reason." I've already stopped using some flavorful terminology changes I tried early on when they didn't add enough.

Supplemental #PokemonBreakVersion thread: Why am I trying to avoid changing things from #BreakRPG so hard? Why not just change whatever? So, a few reasons!
1. The first and most obvious is that basing this on an existing set of rules will save SO much time and effort.

Got some more good BREAK!! RPG x Pokémon playtests in! I want to keep stuff mostly additive when it comes to core rules, but I'm definitely gonna need to lighten the tone of the injury mechanics a bit 😅 Plus I want mid-battle evolutions on there anyway!
