Nothing like holding our prehistory in my hands - complete with cave sediment still on the bone fragment - here a partial tibia from reindeer. These cave bones will be washed next week and left to dry naturally for a couple of weeks. Then full examination and recording of info! #Palaeo-Ireland

Btw I recommend the current 'Wild Ireland' exhibition in the Ulster Museum. Lots of great wildlife and palaeo art by Julian Friers. A depressing record of so many species driven from the island by humans, but also includes examples of conservation success stories.

A busy return to Ireland, but the geology team of Clara and I had a great field season mapping palaeo-lake features in Glen Dee, such as this lake shoreline behind Corrour Bothy.
