#Ostkrieg

#Ostkrieg #Easternfront #OTD 17Dec1941(Crimea) German 11th Army resumes attack on Sevastopol using heavy artillery and air assaults. Gains are minor. Sevastopol was finally conquered but that would have to wait till 3Jul1942

#Ostkrieg #Easternfront #OTD 18Dec1940 (German Strategy) Hitler issues Directive 21, the general outline for Ops Barbarossa. The die is cast ("alea iacta est", Cesar, Rubicon). Irreversible. Germany will be crushed within 4.5 long horrible years.Long text:

tell me you saw pictures of these two book covers but have not read them so you assume they’re making a substantially more general point than the actual specific point they are making

A lot of people like to post the cover of this book to argue that the Eastern Front was just like the American Indian Wars when the first 10 pages of the book are the author explaining the ways in which genocides are different are just as important as the ways in which they are similar

Actually there are several! Google still effective on this front but in particular Hitler’s Ostkrieg and the Indian Wars, Hitler, the Psychopathic God are a couple that go into some length.

For 1 volume works, Fritz's Ostkrieg & Mawdsley's Thunder in East are both very good, providing the German & Soviet views, respectively, both again primarily at the upper levels of command. I have a series of German maps for 1941 that show daily progress that I could send, but that's the only year.

That sounds great, that's the kind of books I like.!

I'm currently re-reading Ostkrieg by Stephen Fritz. It goes in to great detail about how terribly Hitler fucked things up. He really was a dunce like Trump.

I am also reading Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" when I need something to calm me down.

I've read a lot of books on the Nazis, and that holds true.

I'm currently re-reading "Ostkrieg: Hitler's War of Extermination in the East" by Stephen G. Fritz. Fritz explains how Hitler's underlings take his hate of Jews and transforming it over time into their "Final Solution".

Yes and there are many good books on the subject.

One of the more recent books about Hitlers War with Russia by Stephen G. Fritz is: Ostkrieg: "Hitler's War Of Extermination In The East".

There are many movies about the Eastern Front if you look around. There's good Estonian movie called "1944".

Some books to complement those already listed:
David Stahel, Operation Barbarossa and Hitler's Defeat in the East
Stephen Fritz, Ostkrieg: Hitler's War of Extermination in the East
Ben Shepherd's Hitler's Army
Daniel Todman's Britain's War (2 vols)
Nicholas Stargardt, The German War

Gut, dass Winkler nun Genozid #Herero #Nama erkennt. Falsch/widersprüchlich, was er dann schreibt. Wenn Ostkrieg ein Kolonialkrieg ist, &der Holocaust mit dem Kriegsverlauf zusammenhängt, dann gibt es eine Verbindung zw Kolonialismus und Holocaust. Nicht anderes wird debattiert/3

8. *Ostkrieg: Hitler's War of Extermination in the East (Stephen G. Fritz) & Hitler's Soldiers: The German Army in the Third Reich (Ben H. Shepherd). Two broad works that examine the experience and complicity of the German Army in the crimes of the Third Reich.
