#Ormyrus
I see Ormyrus nitidulus occasionally - usually on/around Oak Knopper galls, although I think that it parasitises various gall wasps rather than being specific to that host.

This is a slight cheat as it's not a recent photograph! I found this photo I'd taken a couple of years ago in Surlingham of a
?Ormyrus nitidulus and thought it's such a smart beast I had to post it! Not something I've encountered before or since, this individual was on my car. #hymenoptera

Jelani Alcorn named one of two new species after his mother, Myra (Ormyrus myrae Nastasi). He's a senior biology major at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC. 👏

Start by showing some of the brightly coloured metallic ones and call them 'Disco Wasps' ... and once people are intrigued by the jazzy aspect you can engage them further. Ormyrus nitidulus and Sympiesis dolichogaster and most of the Chrysididae are good ambassadors for wasp love!

Did you happen to rear any Ormyrus from Hemadas galls? Looking out for fresh material for a revision of Ormyrus

#NewSpecies alert! We just published a paper in Zootaxa describing two gorgeous species of #Ormyrus parasitoid wasps associated with herb #gall #wasps! Ormyrus bellbowl is named after the Bell Bowl #Prairie in opposition to its abhorrent partial destruction in 2023. #PreserveOurPrairies

A little something for #BlueBugs on #BlueMonday , a beautiful female Ormyrus nitidulus parasitoid wasp found in the garden birch tree last September when days were warmer. Better days will come again, and these little beauties will return.

Good to see you here.
And that's a rather nice Ormyrus nitidulus in first picture, and a Brachymeria tibialis in the second.

A wonderfully coloured and textured female Ormyrus nitidulus parasitoid wasp found in the garden birch tree this morning. A reasonably common species, yet it always seems a marvel.

When out looking for insects I find they always give you a sort of cryptic clue as to what they really are. Such as this beautiful wasp I found sat on an Acorn with Knopper Gall. Turns out it's not the gall forming wasp itself but a parasitic wasp Ormyrus nitidulus that preys on the gall wasp.

On an ivy hedge outside the city, not yet in flower but sheltered from the wind, *lots* of small blue wasps - male Ormyrus, in the UK from a monogeneric family of oak gall wasp parasitoids 💚🍃

Tis the season for weird lumps emerging from weird lumps and ovipositing more weird lumps into more weird lumps but when you find a weird lump you're not quite sure which weird lump will emerge from the weird lump
(ie, Ormyrus sp wasps are often parasitoids of galls) 🌿 🧪🐝

BlueMonday deserves a beautiful Ormyrus nitidulus wasp!

Cracking photograph of this tiny one. Pteromalidae? Good to see it on the SD card for a sense of scale. Some of the Chalcids have remarkable colours - have you seen either Sympiesis dolichogaster or Ormyrus nitidulus? The colours are in a different league!
