Der feine Herr gönnt sich sogar eine eigene Abzweigstelle.

What's the track speed up there? OpenRailwayMap says it's 50 mph, but the way people talk about it tells me that's outdated. It does show a handful of curves with speed limits that seem overly conservative for their radii though

whoops - i was cross-referencing with OpenRailwayMap to get the positioning of stuff correct, so i probably got mixed up and read Parkway off that by mistake

anyway, fixed :)

Ganz ähnlich in Zuid-Limburg.

Very pleased to share that there is now a version of OpenRailwayMap that shows rail operators, e.g.: openrailwaymap.app#view=12.08/4...

I'm rooting for Qazaqstan creating a land bridge to Tatarstan.

If Muscovites don't like it, even better. I'd love to know what Qazaqs call Omsk.

I notice that there's a huge number of proposed metro lines in Rome on OpenRailwayMap

Leuk die OpenRailwayMap!!!

The old alignment is already labelled as a closed line on the openrailwaymap.
You can clearly see the winding old line and the less curvy newer one that will also offer a straighter and shorter route to Naples avoiding Caserta,

(18/19) For Athens - Inoi ther is a plan to bypass the district of Acharnai in a tunnel. Additionaly, a new tunnel between Kryoneri and Afidnai and the quad-tracking of remaining parts, partially in a new alignment, would cut another 15-20' - if the new line within Athens is ever finished, that is.
September 12, 2025 at 9:28 PM
(17/19) I could write threads just as long for those sections, but for the purposes of this thread I will keep it short: For Thessaloniki - Aeginio, I propose a new high-speed line parallel to the motorway. This could cut a further 10-15', pending speed increases all the way to Larisa.
September 12, 2025 at 9:28 PM
(3/19) I will spare you from the history, however it is key noting that the current state stems from upgrade works started in the mid 90s:
- A new line between Tithorea and Domokos
- Double tracking on a new alignment between Larisa and Platy
- Other sections were to be duplicated and electrified
September 12, 2025 at 9:28 PM
- Increasing track speed along this segment to 90mph including straightening the curve at Gambini Rd will fix about 90%.
- Additionally straightening both curves on either side of the Petaluma River will get that last 10%. This might require acquiring a parking lot.
