to be honest, terms of cultural mainstay of local mythos, indos + malay stories beat us by like a MILE. like our manananggal (which could be read as a variant of the penangalan) is the ONLY variant which retains its torso. for indo and malay myths it’s just a head + GUTS!!

It's a creature from Filipino folklore! However, on the subject of SMT, the Manananggal in SMT V is from the Phillipines!

hm, i've heard of folk lore creatures of the philippines from my cousins. Manananggal is suppose to be some vampire which can split itself in half at the torso
ghosts though, one cousin said he was lure into a field by some lady dressed in white that "teleported him" he also said he was drunk

It's somewhat rough work, but I learned a lot doing it! Never finished it but got a good chunk of the story made.

Now that I think about it, Filipinos who celebrate Halloween should be more creative with their costumes. Andaming pwedeng piliin, based on our local mythological creatures. May sigbin, aswang, kapre, manananggal, tikbalang, yung White Lady sa Balete Drive, etc.

She's a manananggal and still does basically everything that they do in folklore, but with the added themes surrounding family, growing up, motherhood/parenthood, and a lot more, but Perlah's job is to attempt to unburden women living through strife
