i find it funny that you can see a shift in microsoft's design ethos in just the name of the style guide. at first it was just the microsoft manual of style for technical publications and then they decided to rename it to sound like a fuckn self help book but still kept the short abbreviation (MSTP)

Breaking out my old USMLE Step 1 notes from 2019 to study for Step 2 now... 📜👵

Certainly thrilled to not have debt -- that said, the MSTP track has its pain points too.

Please send me luck, MedSky

This has been a really fun one, not least of which because it was driven by our first bona fide graduate student, an incredibly talented MSTP student @david-granadier.bsky.social.

Amid lots of uncertainty, anger, and exhaustion I am excited to share this work from my incredibly talented MSTP and @nuincomm.bsky.social student Haley Province. In it we explore the fascinating and powerful anti-aversive properties of GIPR agonists
GIP receptor agonism suppresses inflammation-induced aversion and food intake via distinct circuits https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.08.12.669936v1

honestly I am in a state of grief over what NIH has become

that grief is borne of 30+ years of NIH support via the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) and then R01 grants

likewise I've served on NIH study sections as an ad hoc reviewer, regular member, and chair

none of this is normal

"Several years" is beyond optimistic. Have you seen what's happened to the MSTP pathway (the only realistic MD/PhD pipeline in 99% cases)? We're cooked for the next half century at minimum. Entire cohorts of researchers have already been lost where training time is measured in decades.
Science is effectively dead in the US for at least the next 3½ years, and will then take another several years to even get started again. Canceled research doesn’t just uncancel itself, and scientists who find opportunity elsewhere won’t just come flocking back.

The damage is generational.
All scientific grant funding must now be approved by a political appointee and "demonstrably advance the President's policy priorities."

I wonder where innovation will happen in the future? It won't be in the US
