Sunday morning medical thoughts:

Stop prescribing hydralazine

Insulin for type 2 diabetes should be like 3rd or 4th line

Losartan sucks and is usually inappropriately dosed.

Telmisartan is infinitely better.

We should draw screening ferritin levels for all women under age 50

Not joking!! This is the 2nd patient of mine with venous insufficiency where a local provider RXs hydralazine. This will be the second time I'll be stopping it and switching to something else.

I see quite a few expats in my clinic and those who are on Hydralazine are almost always from the US. I mean, WHY?

Hydranca strikes again. I just wonder whether we are missing a lot of hydralazine induced vasculitis here in our place. Hydralzine+- nitrate is such a big hit among our cardios. Or is there a race predeliction for this? 🤷

Just say no to hydralazine!!!

I mean seriously, there are so many other better options even for resistant hypertension, and if they're that resistant you need to be rolling out aldosteronism

I often see Hydralazine being prescribed as a first-line anti-HTN agent 🫣

📌 These are not first line and when used in treating resistant #hypertension, they may be added “only if” already on a BB (or bradycardic) and loop diuretic

I did NOT know hydralazine and chlorothiazide were from the 1950s!
This is a fantastic table of all BP drug classes approval over time
