“‘They will not accept flyash (color is too dark),’ replied Hezi Mena, an engineer who was then a senior associate at WSP, in a December 2012 email.

There were two options, Mr. Marcus replied: ‘Color or cracks.’” www.nytimes.com/2025/10/19/n...

Some pots from the last Highlander wood kiln firing - mugs, salt pig, teabowl & breakfast bowl. My favorite piece is a serving bowl but I just couldn't get a decent photo that truly showed the liner glaze. #thistleglenpottery #pottersofbluesky #woodfiredpottery #flyash #flashing #highlanderwoodkiln

These 3 wood fired pots (bowl, teabowl & matcha bowl) were just re-fired in my electric kiln to melt some particles of ash that had settled on the interior surfaces in the original firing. Pleased to say it worked! #thistleglenpottery #pottersofbluesky #woodfiring #flyash #flashing #mtlebanonpa

Made these plates a while back for my daughter and son-in-law. Fired in my NC wood kiln. I've always loved the way fly ash is drawn thru the ware chamber and settles on the surfaces creating an ash glaze. #thistleglenpottery #pottersofbluesky #woodfiredpottery #flyash #plates #mtlebanonpa #shino

We're all for cleaning up coal ash & cutting cement emissions, but this isn't really scalable. Mining yesterday's mess is a workable stopgap, but not the future. #FlyAsh itself subs just 30% of #cement content, so this is more marginal gains than game-changing #decarbonization

Still waiting for the last few pieces of greenware to dry before they get bisque fired. I pulled images of pots that exhibit some movement of the ash glazes I used on them. Two from the wood kiln & two from the gas kiln... #thistleglenpottery #pottersofbluesky #ashglaze #woodfiredpottery #flyash

I'm in the process of making enough ^6 pots to fill a kiln for a bisque firing. In the interim, here are some of my ^10 pots from the past. Some wood fired, some fired in a small propane fueled kiln. #thistleglenpottery #pottersofbluesky #tenmoku #flyash #teapot #saltpig #mtlebanonpa

A series of wood fired free-form footed centerpieces. Probably the most labor intensive pieces I've made (along with teapots). A friend uses hers as a serving dish on special occasions. #thistleglenpottery #woodfiredceramics #pottersofbluesky #flyash #mtlebanonpa #stoneware #shinoglaze #ashglaze
