#Ethnoecology
Brilliant botanist, but understands absolutely nothing about symbiotic ecosystems, ethnoecology, the blatant colonialism she exhibits by hostile-terraforming the rainforest, the ecofascist attitude she takes towards humans and indifference to uncontacted tribes...

Currently off-vibing, nursing a throat virus with two epic plant people: marshmallow (wow!) and black elderberry (damn!).

Health products aren't regulated in Canada, so if you can find these from a local harvester you'll know you're in for some serious healing powers.

Really enjoying this Ologies episode with Leigh Joseph (Squamish First Nation community) on ethnoecology. They discuss traditional knowledge, protecting Indigenous used plants and knowledge, and more. Thinking about what to do with my land, perfect timing!

Indigenous peoples' ecological knowledge is so often light years above our own. I was privileged to be able to take an ethnoecology course at our Kumeyaay community college and it blew my mind. This is our key for the future 🩷
Brighten your day. Historian rediscovers a pre-Incan method of water storage, gets money to restore the existing structures, and the town he grew up in now has access to water 10 hours a day, up from 1/2 hour per day. The details are v. cool.

When historian Galo Ramón uncovered a long-forgotten pre-Incan water system in Ecuador, he set about restoring it, and helped transform the landscape and livelihoods

Working on my PhD in systems ecology and ethnoecology.

Focusing on questions about how pattern formation & landscape morphogenesis occurs in complex systems of geology, ecology, and culture.

Tweet about a lot of other things though

A "Mother of Thousands" succulent drops plantlets on the windowsill overlooking A Place of Medicine courtyard garden. Its caretaker, PhD candidate Lauren Burton (Marine Ethnoecology Research Group), works quietly on her thesis nearby.

Enjoyed this episode of @ologies.bsky.social featuring ethnobotanist Leigh Joseph. I learned a lot about sustainable harvesting vs foraging, respecting Indigenous knowledge vs cultural appropriation/exploitation, and useful advice on nature-based skincare.
